Have you ever wondered what the point of coming to church is? In fact - lets take a selfish individualistic approach and ask the question - what's in it for me? Isaiah 55 has something pretty powerful to say on the issue:
"Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labour for that which does not satisfy. Listen diligently to me and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food....hear, that your soul may live." Isaiah 55:2-3
What's in it for me? Well there are all kinds of reasons why people come to church on Sunday. To hang out with friends, to sing songs, to go out for food afterwards. But if that's our main reason for going, then we have completely missed the point. Something wonderful, something rich beyond measure is happening at Unichurch every Sunday night. We are listening to God's words in the bible. And Isaiah says this is real food, this is real drink, that will give you real life - a life lived in relationship with God, and a life that never ends. So be honest - is that why you come to church? To hear God's voice so that you can truly live.
Why not pray this Sunday that God would really help our preacher Paul Barker to teach God's words clearly and faithfully - so that what he says is what God says. And even more - why don't you pray that God helps you to listen really well to his words so that you might live. And whatever you do, don't stay at home and do something useless. Come and feed you soul; come and truly live.
