This Sunday we are going to hear more about the gift that Jesus gives to the world after his death and resurrection. The gift of the Holy Spirit. And we are also going to hear about the work that He does: He hears God’s words and then he makes them known to Jesus’ apostles. And they in turn make them known to us. I guess this sounds like a slightly dry mechanical process at first - a sort of divine Chinese whispers. But Jesus does not think of it like that. This is how Jesus thinks of it: “He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.” The words of the apostles, that we read in the bible, are God’s way of showing himself to you. To read them is to fix your gaze on the glory of God. So my great prayer is that we would be people who see God in the bible and would be utterly thrilled by who we see. That’s the way its meant to be when you are a Christian.
